Silver Creek Fire Update 8/14/18 10:40pm

Silver Creek Fire update, 10:40pm

The Latigo Ranch area is still under evacuation at this time and the Old Park area is still under pre-evacuation. There have been no changes in that regards. There was a LOT of activity in the area as well as in Kremmling as preparations were made in the event that an evacuation was needed. If the weather that we experienced over the last few days continued into today, the chances of an evacuation would have increased. However, firefighting crews got a bit of a reprieve today from the weather, which provided more humidity and winds favorable to pushing the fire back onto itself for a bit. This allowed the crews to attack the fire more aggressively and increase the fire breaks along the lines. The weather outlook for tomorrow is the same although any gust of wind can take the fire into new areas.

The U.S. Forest Service was also able to obtain two heavy aircraft to drop retardant on the fire which was extremely helpful in establishing a more defined defensive line. This, coupled with the Type III, Type II and Type I helicopters already working the fire was a great thing for the area!

In the coming days, the area will see a Type II team come in and be able to provide even more fire support with potentially more resources. Due to all of the fires in the Western half of the U.S. though, fire resources are extremely limited.

Grand County Sheriff Deputies continued to go door to door and also drove along all of the county roads in the area to speak with residents about the fire and potential evacuation plans.

A community briefing was held at the Old Park Fire Hall at 7pm on Tuesday to provide information about the fire as well as answer questions to all of the residents. We appreciate everyone coming out and the next briefing will be held on Wednesday, Aug 15th at 7pm at the Fire hall as long as an evacuation does not occur.

Please continue to check out the Inciweb from the U.S.F.S. for updates. We will also be providing updates throughout the day tomorrow starting at approx 9am and getting them out between 60-90 minutes depending on what's happening in the area.

Thank you to ALL of those that have helped out with this fire so far. From the U.S.F.S. to all of the Fire Districts (Kremmling Fire, HSS Fire, Grand Fire, Grand Lake Fire and East Grand Fire), to the law enforcement agencies (Sheriff's Office, Kremmling PD, Granby PD and WP/Fraser PD). To the additional EMS crews that helped set up a support facility in Kremmling to all of the PIOs in the county that have helped provide information and monitor these sites, we are truly appreciative of all of your work and from taking time away from YOUR families to help keep Grand County safe.
