Silver Creek Fire Update 8-19-18

The following information is provided by the Rocky Mountain Type 2 Blue Team:

Summary:
Fire Size: 4778
Containment: 5%
Structures Lost: 0
Firefighters: 514

The Silver Creek Fire experienced minimal activity yesterday due to precipitation over the fire area as well as lower temperatures and higher relative humidities. Higher winds associated with passing storms yesterday afternoon and evening did not significantly impact fire behavior or fire growth.

Colorado Highway 134 remains closed due to firefighting activity, and the Latigo Ranch, Old Park, and Gore Lakes areas remain under mandatory evacuation by the Grand County Sheriff.

Crews continue to employ full suppression tactics as they continue to build direct fireline on the southeast side of the fire. On the west side of the fire, heavy equipment will continue to be used to improve fireline previously constructed by bulldozers and logging equipment as crews prepare Forest Road 100 for possible burnout operations when conditions allow. These burnout operations, should they occur, will consume unburned fuel between the fire’s edge and the fireline.

A cooler, stable air mass has settled into the region over the past day. This will bring scattered morning clouds which will increase in the afternoon to include possible light showers. Northwest winds will shift to north and then northeast throughout the day; gusts up to 25mph may be possible. The high temperature for today will be in the mid-60s with minimum relative humidity around 30%. Overnight temperatures could reach freezing.

The Grand County Office of Emergency Management utilizes the CodeRED notification system to notify the community of emergency situations. If you are not already signed up, visit https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/8353F1C0B3BC for more information.

An area implemented by the Routt National Forest closure remains in. It may be viewed at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5985/45808/. Colorado Highway 134 remains closed due to firefighting activity.

The public is asked to stay clear of the area to allow firefighters to safely manage the fire.
