Silver Creek Fire Update 8-22-18

The following information is provided by the Rocky Mountain Type 2 Blue Team.

Structures Lost: 0
Injuries: 0
Fire Size: 4745 acres
Containment: 15%

Cooler weather and recent rains have slowed growth around the perimeter of the Silver Creek Fire. Even as acreage remains steady, dry heavy timber continues to burn within the interior and full suppression continues with foremost concern toward firefighter and public safety.

Containment has increased to 15%; much of the containment is along the west edge of Red Dirt Reservoir. As firefighters extinguish hotspots around the fire, bulldozers and logging equipment are strengthening fireline by removing trees and vegetation along Forest Road 100. Protective fireline has also been constructed at portions of Forest Roads 250 and 185. At the northeast corner of the fire, crews have built containment lines and safety zones around spot fires. In areas which are safe for equipment and crews, fireline repair has begun to improve drainage and prevent runoff.

Weather today is expected to be cooler with alternating periods of sun and rain showers. Temperatures will reach the mid-60s, and humidity will stay around 50%. Winds will be generally light with gusts to 15 mph; strong and erratic outflow winds are possible as thunderstorms pass.

The Routt National Forest has revised its emergency area closure. All hunters and recreating public are advised to view the revised closure at:
Emergency response traffic remains heavy near the Silver Creek Fire; please heed all closures and only travel where needed.

The Latigo Ranch area is still under a full evacuation order; Old Park, and Gore Lakes areas remain under pre-evacuation notice by the Grand County Sheriff. For the most current evacuation information, please visit
