Silver Creek Fire Update 8-23-18

Structures Burned: 0
Injuries: 0
Fire Size: 4745
Containment: 27%

With the assistance of higher relative humidity and low fire activity, crews have reach 27% containment on the Silver Creek Fire. Fire acreage remains at 4,745 acres while interior fuels continue to smolder and creep in areas of heavy timber. Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority of this full suppression fire.

With containment increasing on the eastern side of the fire, crews work to improve fireline on the west side of Old Park subdivision as well as along the western side of the fire perimeter. By removing vegetation along fireline previously constructed with the use of heavy equipment and hand tools, crews are eliminating possible fuel sources for the fire, should it become more active. Fireline repair work continues to improve drainage and prevent runoff in areas deemed safe and appropriate.

As a weak frontal system crosses the area this morning, west winds will be sustained at 10-15mph and gusting to 30mph. Following a few morning showers, sunny skies will dominate the afternoon with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs will be in the low 60s to upper 70s. Relative humidity will be between 30-35% today.
The Routt National Forest has revised its emergency area closure. All hunters and recreating public are advised to view the revised closure at:
