Silver Creek Fire Update 9-13-18

As of 5 p.m. on Wed. evening, the fire had grown to 5,973 acres. That is a conservative estimate & additional growth occurred last night to the N/NE.

Acreage will be updated today. Approximate location of the fire at this time in the NE corner is at the National Forest/State (Milk Creek State Trust land) boundary.

An updated area closure will be put in place today, increasing the closed area to the north from the previous boundary.

No structures are immediately threatened. The nearest homes are along Hwy 40 to the east and in Lake Agnes to the north, over three miles away.

Over 100 personnel are now assigned to the fire, with additional on order. This includes four crews, multiple engines, heavy equipment, and two helicopters.

Fire behavior is expected to be significant again today and tomorrow, with hot, windy, and dry conditions. Potential for additional fire growth is high on the NE corner of the fire.

Multiple Single-Engine Air Tankers were utilized on Wednesday to protect hunter camps which had not been evacuated or where contact had not yet been made.

Evacuation (south of the Green Creek fire scar) of hunters (GMU 27) and campers was and is a priority for fire personnel and Grand County.

Smoke from the fire will be highly visible again today from Kremmling, Steamboat Springs, and Highway 40.
